Long-term Tutoring Yields Positive Results with the Tutor Corps Foundation

Maiceo came to the Tutor Corps Foundation in the spring 2020 as a 6th grader navigating the first wave of COVID-19 online learning. At the time, Maiceo was struggling with school. He wasn’t feeling motivated to complete his coursework and he was struggling with the recent loss of his father. While he was feeling unmotivated, he knew he wanted to reach his full potential. “I’m just trying to be the best for my mom,” he wrote in his initial application. While he wasn’t sure what he wanted to be when he grew up, he knew he wanted to be the best he could be in order to get a good job and support his family.

Leadership Team Feature: Kathy Pahel

Here at Tutor Corps, we are so unbelievably lucky to have Kathy Pahel as our Faculty Manager and Instructional Coach. Kathy brings an illustrious career and set of experiences to her role that allow her to advocate for and support teachers in an unparalleled fashion. With a BA in Political Science, minors in Education and Religious Studies, teaching credentials in English and social science, and a Masters in Education, Kathy is an educator through and through. She has been teaching since 2013, from ancient, medieval, and US history in the classroom to five years of 1:1 tutoring and homeschool teaching. Prior to joining our leadership team, she was also a 1:1 tutor with Tutor Corps and the Tutor Corps Foundation and a 1:1 teacher through our sister school, Pacific Preparatory.
