The Tutor Corps Foundation Proudly Sponsors 15 Students for the 2023-2024 School Year

The Tutor Corps Foundation is in full swing, proudly sponsoring 15 students for the 2023-2024 academic year. Thanks to our generous donors, we are able to provide weekly 1:1 tutoring to our new cohort for the full year. While the Tutor Corps leadership team donates their time to running the foundation, our donors allow us to pay tutors for their instruction time, allowing us to recruit and retain top talent.

This year, we prioritized funding low-income students at Title 1 schools and expanded our scope beyond the SF Bay Area and LA. We’re glad to be sponsoring students in need across California and in Connecticut, Washington, Texas, and Tennessee. Of our cohort, 5 of our students are returning, thriving under multiple years of our tutors’ 1:1 mentorship. We are supporting students who have experienced houselessness, students with learning differences who could benefit from additional 1:1 attention, and many students who have fallen behind academically during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the needs of our students in mind, we also launched a new mentorship curriculum this year, spearheaded by our Faculty Manager Kathy Tojaga. Through this curriculum, our tutors are taught to move beyond content tutoring in order to help their students foster a growth mindset and build social emotional skills.

With a few weeks of tutoring under their belt already, a parent of one of our students just reached out to let us know about their experience so far: “Tutor Corps has been a key component to the success of closing the educational gap which was created during Covid 19 online school learning,” noted Eduardo Torres. “Tutor Corps supported my daughter during a very difficult academic time and has brought her back to the level of education she needs to be at. We are grateful for the supportive staff.”

We are so proud to support Eduardo’s daughter Rihanna, along with many other bright young minds!

If interested in supporting more students like Rihanna, please consider donating to our foundation today.
