About Our Corps

Students value our educators for their teaching style and supportive mentorship. Parents, guardians and schools choose Tutor Corps because of our experience and the results we achieve.

Our educators are graduates of the country’s most prominent universities, such as Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Harvard, Yale, University of Chicago and Princeton. Many hold teaching credentials, special education credentials and advanced degrees, including Masters, PhDs and JDs. Their academic records are excellent, and their standardized test scores are in the top percentiles.

Our hiring process is extremely rigorous. We require all of our tutors to have strong academic backgrounds, subject mastery, teaching experience and the ability to connect with students, parents and teachers. Our high standards account for a selective 2% hiring rate of the total number of applicants. We conduct multiple rounds of interviews including mock tutoring scenarios, professional references and fingerprinting background checks. Only after a complete vetting process and training are they invited to join the Tutor Corps team.

  • How We Recruit

    Our educators find us through many channels, but most find us through word of mouth. Many of our educators stay with us for multiple years and share their positive Tutor Corps experience with their educator peers.

    We recruit systematically and strategically year round. An entire division of our management team is devoted solely to seeking out and hiring the most qualified educators in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. We keep them with us by offering competitive rates, professional development opportunities, and by frequently showing our appreciation for their hard work.

  • How We Hire

    Our hiring process is extremely rigorous. Our high standards account for a selective 2% hiring rate of the total number of applicants.  We conduct multiple rounds of interviews including mock tutoring scenarios, reference checks and FBI/DOJ Livescan fingerprinting (the highest level of background check available). Only after a complete vetting process and training are they invited to join the Tutor Corps team.

  • How We Match

    Finding the right educator match to fit any given request is the most important aspect of our job. Our approach is high-touch and qualitative. We start with a comprehensive intake process, either on the phone or in person. We may follow-up with an intake form, depending on the extent of the request. We then reach out to the educators we feel will be a good match based on subject expertise, geography, availability and overall personality. After making our recommendation, we follow-up with frequent phone check ins to make sure the match is working out long term.
