Job Description
Tutor Corps, the premier tutoring company in the Bay Area, is looking to hire dynamic educators seeking part time contract employment. We have immediate positions open for tutors who:
- Can work in the Peninsula, South Bay, San Francisco, East Bay and Marin County
- Have K-12 subject expertise, specifically high school level math (algebra 1 + 2, geometry, calculus, statistics) and science (biology, chemistry, physics)
- Have experience teaching standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT) and college application assistance
- Have experience working with students with learning differences (ADD, Dyslexia, etc.)
- Have a car to travel to students’ homes
- Are able to commit to working until at least June 2012
Applicant Qualifications:
- Must possess a B.A./B.S. degree from a top-tier university
- Have at least one year of tutoring and/or teaching experience
- Ability to build rapport with students
- Skills to clearly and effectively teach and explain complex topics in simple terms
- Advanced degrees and/or a current teaching credential a plus
Tutor’s Role
Tutor Corps uses a one-on-one tutoring model that treats each student as a unique individual. Tutors work with students of all backgrounds and abilities, modifying instruction for different learning styles and health and learning challenges (e.g. ADD/ADHD). Tutors help students develop their academic potential by integrating subject expertise, mentorship and teaching organization and study skills. Our mission is to help students understand not only what to learn, but how to learn, and tutors play an integral role in making learning fun and meaningful for their students.
Position Overview
Our pay rate is $30-$50 depending on experience and education. Your primary responsibilities are:
- Educational assessment
- Curriculum planning
- Engaging in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions
- Communication with students, parents and teachers
- Managing your own schedule and recording hours billed
- Writing regular progress reports
- Participating in quarterly meetings (in person and by phone) with the Tutor Services Manager
